They also all have options for text-only pages as well as pages with varying amounts of text and images. All of them have a learning-curve of sorts. The Blurb software is not difficult to follow. Here's some more information about the books: You can click on a book on the left-hand side of the page to get a 15-page preview. Here's a link to one of my websites with four of my Blurb books featured. That way they won't be lost if something happens to you or to your computer or to the CDs/DVDs/HDs you use for photo storage. And their customer service is very quick to print and ship a replacement book if there is a problem.īottom line is, whichever you choose, you won't be disappointed, as long as you use high resolution, sharp, properly exposed images. Blurb has had issues with quality control and with buggy software, but recently they seem to be getting these under control. The paper used in Blurb books isn't as heavy or as glossy as the paper used by the others, but image quality is still very good. As the books get larger and heavier, there's more stress on the bindings, which are glued, not stitched, in all of these print-on-demand books. The books are available with up to 400 pages, although I'd recommend you keep them to no more than about 200 pages. They aim to offer 'bookstore-quality' books at lower prices than the others. And of course, if you've already spent several thousand dollars on a holiday, what's another $100 for a beautiful book to preserve the memories?!īlurb is kind of a 'new kid on the block', but they're catching up fast. The quality is high and quality control is good.įor these three, you are limited to 99 pages and costs are high, although they all often run special offers with discounts that will bring the prices down. IPhoto books are actually printed by My Publisher and there is little difference between the two, except that page layout options differ. With the others, when you go to upload your finished book, the images are processed before upload. And this partially explains why Shutterfly is the highest quality - because you upload your images at their full resolution and these are used to create the book. With the others, you download software, create the book on your own computer, then upload the finished book. Shutterfly is also different in that you first upload your photos to create albums on the server, then you create your book online. ![]() The best for print quality is Shutterfly, although the others are slowly catching up. I teach photography courses and received questions about these books from students, so I made sample books in order to show the differences. I've done books with iPhoto, My Publisher, Shutterfly and Blurb. There was a discussion of this topic several months ago on the Europe forum. You can look at their forum for other ideas, but most of what is there is mediocre at best (great trips I'm sure but page designers not). The second did not (requires photo shop or other design program and more work). I looked thru the mypublisher forum (not recently) and below are two of the best Africa or travel books I have seen. ![]() A good layout will give you a great book. If you have quality digital images MyPublisher is great. Would not use Blurb where I wanted to use full page scenics and animal shots, thus am working on a 2 volume book with mypublisher for our Africa trip. I have not made my own Blurb book, but ordered a sample they sell to look at the quality, which I don't think is as good as MyPublisher. Also true that Blurb is cheaper, you can put many more pages in a book (mypublisher limited to 100 sides unless that has changed with a software update recently released), but the largest Blurb page size is quite a bit smaller. As commented above, they are a professional quality, easy to use, there are several options for using text, and potentially more if you do your own page design. ![]() Have used MyPublisher on several books including travel and wedding and the quality on the large size (11x15 or so) is outstanding. I'm personally trying to transition over to iPad which is why I started small, it's my first time, one big problem I have is I usually rest my palm on the surface when doing precise lines, iPad has no bezel and is 1.3CM combined with its case thick, so I made a cutout from balsa craft wood (you can cut it with some sharp scissors or a craft knife) and stacked it that it slots into which makes it flush, it worked wonders, but I'm looking at purchasing something more refined like this: Comfort and Fit The center nosepiece and shield on the Smith Pursuit sunglasses (Photo/David Young) On the other hand, I used these on a trip skiing and snowshoeing in Banff and they stood up to the high-altitude bright sun and snow. ![]() They protected against the sun, wind, and flying snow kicked up by the snowmobiles in deep powder on Togwotee Pass. While snowmobiling isn’t exactly what they are intended for, if you end up zipping around the backcountry on a sled (especially to get to a ski locale), they will work great. And no matter where I was, whether I was in the backcountry, side, or front, the Pursuit performed great. I’ve spent a lot of this wintertime on snow in the the Wind River Range in Wyoming to skiing in Banff, Canada. Testing in the North and the West (Photo/David Young) For cloudy or lowlight conditions I can use the clear lens and for very sunny days there is the Matte Black + ChromaPop Black Lens with a 10% VLT. This means that my Copper Red Mirror lens works well in high sunlight conditions, which I encounter quite a bit in the Rocky Mountains. A standard sunglasses lens is around 15% to 25% VLT. The VLT is a percentage of how much sunlight penetrates the lens and hits your eyes. This has a Variable Light Transmission (VLT) of 7% to 45%. I tested out the Matte Slate + ChromaPop Glacier Photochromic Copper Red Mirror lens. ChromaPop lenses have color filtration, which combines color technology with polarization. Polarized lenses block horizontal reflected light beams thus eliminating glare off of water or snow. While ChromaPop lenses enhance contrast and natural color to enhance details, they differ from standard polarized sunglasses. Plus, each pair of sunglasses comes with a clear lens you can pop in for lowlight situations. Smith offers five different color lens options (of varying VLTs) for the Pursuit for various lighting conditions. And the ChromaPop offers a variety of lenses you can swap in and out that have great contrast and color enhancement throughout the tint range. These lenses have less sensitivity to temperature changes compared to other adaptable lenses. The lens will change to match the various light conditions on the mountain. Smith’s signature ChromaPop Glacier Photochromic lens is the heart of these sunglasses. That being said, unless you are really getting after it on big-mountain ski tours, and doing it frequently, these sunglasses may be more than you need.Ĭheck Price at EVO Check Price at Smith Smith Pursuit Sunglasses Review (Photo/David Young) Protection From Sun & Snow, ChromaPop Technology In my sun-filled days on the snow testing these glasses, I was able to ditch my goggles and Wildcat sunglasses, in turn using the Pursuit for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and skiing. With ample coverage, sun protection, and airflow, skiers can modify the frame to fit almost any alpine condition. In short: The Pursuit ($269-299) is the ideal one-quiver eyewear for backcountry adventures. It includes a nose cover adaptor, goggle-inspired strap attachment, an extra clear lens, and a carrying case. The Pursuit builds on the Wildcat’s oversize windshield coverage with a blend of goggle-like coverage combined with the feel of sunglasses. Which makes sense, considering the fact that Townsend made Smith’s Wildcat sunglasses a staple in the backcountry among skiers years ago. Smith athlete and backcountry skier Cody Townsend - who needs no introduction - had a hand in helping design the Pursuit. The glacier-style glasses, as Smith dubs them, work equally well on long ascents as well as steep and deep descents. However, while they work for snowmobiling, these are truly designed for backcountry skiing and high-exertion mountain adventures. ![]() I didn’t need to switch from bulky goggles to venting sunglasses, or vice versa. ![]() The Pursuit killed it on my recent snowmobile trip, providing great sun, wind, and snow protection for the upper half of my face. Hammering Prime Ape Huts also yield Manure. The Manure throw does decrease player's sanity but does not do any damage to the player's health. Both of these sources depend on the Prime Ape having at least one piece of Manure in the first place, which is generated when it eats. Attacking one will cause all nearby Prime Apes to become hostile. In the Shipwrecked DLC, Prime Apes will throw Manure at the player when player attacks them, which then can be collected. In the Reign of Giants DLC, Manure can be used to extinguish fires that is, apart from Camp Fires, Fire Pits, Endothermic Fires, and Endothermic Fire Pits. Once thrown, the manure is destroyed and can't be picked up again. Wilbur can equip manure like a weapon and throw it at enemies. Manure works the same way as Guano Guano is a better fertilizer than manure, but Guano cannot be used to craft any of the farms. It will burn for 90 seconds and releases a gas cloud when burned, which is only for humorous effect. Manure can also be used as fuel in Campfire or Fire Pits. Manure is also required to fertilize Grass Tufts or Berry Bushes after they have been dug up with a shovel and replanted. Manure can be used to fertilize the vegetables that farms produce and helps them grow faster, unless it is winter. They are all dropped from their animals periodically, except for the Pigs, who need to be fed Vegetables, Fruits or Petals, and Splumonkeys, who throw it at the player as an attack. Manure is a renewable resource that is generated by several creatures in the world, including Pigs, Koalefants, Beefalo and Splumonkeys. If you have ever used an old fashioned Volt ohm meter, you will notice that there is a mirror ring behind the needle. That is the point that there is no parallax problem. If you point your finger straight up in front of a mirror as you move your head side to side you will notice that there is only one place that you can not see your finger and the reflected image of you finger. For more information, please consult our list of "frequently asked questions" at Last edited by LHB1 Octoat 10:56 PM. (Using the same 4x scope at 100 yards, the maximum error is less than 2/10ths of an inch.) It is also good to remember that, as long you are sighting straight through the middle of the scope, or close to it, parallax will have virtually no effect on accuracy in a hunting situation. (Even in this unlikely event, our 4x hunting scope focused for 150 yards has a maximum error of only 8/10ths of an inch at 500 yards.) At short distances, the parallax effect does not affect accuracy. ![]() Maximum parallax occurs when your eye is at the very edge of the exit pupil. It occurs when the target does not fall on the same optical plane as the reticle. It is the apparent movement of the target relative to the reticle when you move your eye away from the center point of the eyepiece. What is parallax? Parallax is essentially an optical illusion. Parallax has always been defined as the apparent movement of crosshairs on the target when the eye is moved away from center of scope light path. Suggest you check Leupold website or other source. NO disrespect but I think your definition of parallax is wrong. ![]() I have one scope with adjustable parallax setting for use on a bench rest rifle capable of five shot groups measuring. During the last 40 years, parallax has never caused me to miss a game animal or lose an offhand rifle shooting match. It's effects are grossly overblown IMO.Īll my hunting rifles wear Leupold 2x7 or 3x9 variables. Are you and your gun capable of less than 1 moa groupings IN FIELD CONDITIONS? No? Then buy a good hunting scope and forget about parallax. UNLESS YOU ARE A BENCH REST SHOOTER, YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PARALLAX ANYWAY!!! I would guess the MAX parallax error under 400 yds with any good hunting scope to be not more than 1 minute of angle (approx 1 inch per 100 yds). Before reaching scope shadow, if the target appears to move around the reticle you have parallax for that range and it should be adjusted.ĮTA: FordGuy, since you know about paralax, and understand it, you should know that your optic should be better than your rifle.IF you have your eye perfectly centered behind the scope there is NO PARALLAX PROBLEM AT ANY DISTANCE!!! The parallax problem occurs ONLY when your eye is off center AND you are shooting at a distance other than the distance for which the scope is focused (parallax free). Without disturbing the lay of the weapon/scope on the target, slightly move your head up/down and left/right or in circles behind the scope within the range of the exit pupil. Turn the power setting to the maximum magnification for optimal results. ![]() To check for parallax have the weapon in a steady rest and aim at the desired target downrange. If it is not, an improper sight picture cannot be obtained. It is very important that parallax be focused out of the scope. If the target appears to be moving or is out of focus, the scope needs to have the parallax adjusted. It is defined as the apparent movement of the reticle across the target when the position of the head is slightly moved. ![]() Parallax comes from the image of the target not being focused on the same plane as the reticle.
